Comment on this artwork

This painting is an obvious homage to Van Gogh's Sunflowers. I have to say that I find it pretty kitschy, but I still like the calming deep blue with hints of warmth. It is from a time when I was exploring different artists that I liked. I'm not afraid to say, I blatantly stole ideas from them and executed them in a naive way. It's like art that is hoping to get on greeting cards. But that would be ok I guess.

I think it is important to get those influences out of your system as soon as you can. And you might as well be forthright about it. This can lead to pretty student-grade looking art, but you have to address what haunts your mind by stabbing it straight in the heart. Otherwise, you risk hiding those influences in your imagery while trying to cast them as coincidental.

With that said, I still like this piece.
