Comment on this artwork

At this time around 2001, I was painting in the basement jam space of one James Edlund and 10w40 in a warehouse in Northeast Minneapolis. I think it was called the Northrup King Building... I remember the strong smell of an oil furnace and my turpentine, which in itself reeked so bad I had to quit painting there. I should have been using odorless mineral spirits, but the oil paint itself stunk pretty bad too.

I was trying to kill the editor at this point, and giving myself the liberty to not think, but just lay down gestures and let whatever thoughts I had subconsciously come to life. I wanted to get out of the rhetoric of cubism as well as Van Gogh lyricism and move in spirit more towards graffiti. It was hard to sell any of these from that time. I sold an even larger painting called People for $35. The canvas cost $80 alone. I needed smokes and beer. Really, my life as an artist at that point was little more than glorified pan handling. But, a good friend of mine bought it from the original owner so all is good.

I have no idea where this painting went. The last I remember, it was hanging in my brother Brad's office space in Stillwater. But I lost track of many paintings especially from that period. If you know where it is, let me know (-;
